The South-North water Transfer project is a major strategic project that diverts part of the abundant water resources in the Yangtze River Basin and Han River Basin of the people's Republic of China to North China and Northwest China, thereby changing the situation of floods in the south and droughts in the north and severe water shortages in the north. It effectively promotes the coordinated development of the economy, society, population, resources and environment in the north and south of China. The project has three water diversion routes: the East Line, the Middle Line and the west Line, with a total investment of more than 500 billion yuan.
